Disappointed

I was so excited when I ordered this book; it had good reviews and Mrs. Ludy is a well respected author. However, I have been horribly disappointed. While I think Mrs. Ludy has very good intentions and her heart is in the right place, I can't help but feel like she was preaching from a soapbox when she wrote this book. She often uses her and her husband as the perfect examples of Christian living and encourages her readers to mimic their lifestyles. For example, she promotes her own style, saying that modest fashion for young ladies should come from business casual stores, rather than from more trendy stores, and she strongly discourages women from wearing sweats when hanging around the house with their husbands, because she thinks that's disrespectful. And while these things may work for her personally, they certainly do not work for everyone as she seems to suggest. And while I'm sure Mrs. Ludy didn't intend to come off this way, I can't help but feel like she is suggesting that all young Christian ladies should fit into a cookie cutter mold of femininity, without taking into account their own personal style or preference; they should blend into the background and be the people that hardly anyone notices. That being said, I think the book does offer some really lovely tips on becoming more ladylike, I just tend to disagree with a lot of her advice. I'm much more interested in becoming more feminine and ladylike in a way that doesn't totally throw my personality out the window. I was looking for a book that would help me better reflect Christ through the individual sense of style and the taste that He gave me, not a book that would require me to be more like Leslie Ludy to become more like Christ.

For the Godly Woman

This book was refreshingly wonderful. I'm always surprised at how much I glean from the Ludy's books. I must be honest and say I wasn't expecting much, based on the title. But, I took away soooo much from this book.
There is a lost art of true grace and beauty. There are so many lessons I learned on manners, forgiveness, selflessness through this book. It was such a blessing. Leslie loves Jesus and she always encourages young women to love him too above all else with a denial to self.
A wonderful gift to give to the young Christian women in your life. :)

A little too judgemental...

I like a lot of what the Ludy's preach, and for the most part our lifestyles match up in beliefs, desires and views on feminity. The only reason I can't rate this higher is honestly, I feel like Leslie does talk a bit too much about herself(putting herself and her beliefs on a pedestal) and she doesn't always have good Biblical support for her beliefs. Also I feel like she is too judgemental. A good portion of her book, and all the magazines i've read, bashes anyone who doesn't fit the standards in her head, implying they aren't Christian, and praises only those who fit her view of christianity. I felt uncomfortable reading about her talking so viciously about these women. If Leslie would lose the criticism and judgment I would be a whole hearted fan!
