Honestly, this review may be a bit misleading depending on what your using it for. I was hoping it would be excellent for step 2 ck…..In terms of comprehensive coverage of disease, etiology, and s/s, this book is top notch. It covers the surface of everything. It hits the most important points that are high yield, all in a nice bullet format, which can be good or bad depending on your learning style. BUT…and this is a BIG BUT... in regards to "next step in management", treatment protocols, gold standard screening and diagnostic test, which is basically 50% of what you need to know for step 2 ck, this book is EXTREMELY LACKING. IM ALMOST DUMBFOUNDED HOW THIS CAN EVEN BE ADVERTISED AS A "STEP 2 BOOK". For example, if you look for "Pneumonia", you will see sections where they will tell u all the basic info thats important about it, maybe w/ a few b/w pics here and there, but it will NOT GIVE U AN OZ OF INFO ABOUT TREATMENT PROTOCOL…whats the first step in management??.whats the most accurate test?? whats the treatment if its your standard CAP?? inpatient/outpatient,?? how does the protocol change if its a HAP pt?? or if the patient is allergic to certain drugs what are alternative therapy options??.if the pt is a smoker..or if the pt is an alcoholic or has dementia or seizures making him prone to aspiration pneumo???….NOTHING!…. YOU CAN BASICALLY VIEW THIS BOOK AS A BIGGER EXPANDED VERSION OF FIRST AID FOR STEP 1 without all the nice colors and diagrams….hell i would even say that the new 2014 FA is hands down better than this, seeing as the publishers have now incorporated new treatment and management information under ea dz, in contrast to earlier version of FA. But what this book does have is Volume and comprehensive coverage of basic characteristics of disease. If you are willing to sit there and write in notes for what this book is lacking, THIS BOOK WOULD BE GOLDEN FOR STEP 2 CK BOARDS.
