I enjoyed reading this story. It was different then the other three books in the series in terms of the relationship between the hero and the heroine. Unlike the other stories, Max was enemies with Erin Rule's brothers and kidnapped her to obtain his revenge. It added an interesting element that made the story more entertaining and held my attention the entire time. At no time was I bored nor did I feel like I could even put the story down. Like most of the other stories in this series, the sex scenes were hot. I love jealous, possessive & protective alpha men and so I was loving that about Max as he certainly was and was obsessive on top of it. Some readers may feel that he went overboard in his attempts to keep Erin with him and his stalking her but since it is fantasy and not reality, I had no problem with those scenes. IMO they added to the hotness. I feel like I am being greedy when I say but would have loved it if there could be other meetings that Erin had with other men where Max has an opportunity to lets his jealousy have free reign. Other than telling her before meeting with the neighbors not to flirt with the male neighbor, he had no reactions to her being around the neighbor nor did the neighbor show any interest in her at all. In the first book Rule's Obsession, Damian Rule, the hero from that book, almost lost it when he finds Angie, the heroine, in a room and sitting close to another man. It was perfectly innocent but I loved his reaction. There was none of those types of encounters but again, I am probably being greedy. I loved that there were no sex scenes with OW/OM in this story which is usually something that I can count on with Lynda Chance's stories, which is greatly appreciated. Also in this story there were no needless separations. Again the majority of the author's stories do not contain them. Only a minority of them.
I would have liked the climax to have been more drawn out which would have made it more exciting. Instead the heroine and her brothers gave in way too easily to Max and the conflict was resolved fairly quickly. I liked the HEA including epilogue.

Was hoping for more from it...

I really wanted to like this more, but it turned out to be just an okay/meh read for me. Nothing to truly hate on, but nothing to wow me either. The hero was over the top, very demanding in his actions, all alpha male and obsessed with having the heroine, and that was enjoyable. This h is more likable than Maria, the previous book's heroine, but to me, Erin was sort of bland, even gullible. Also, I feel the author put Erin in some contrived situations: Vegas, the drinking, the passport, etc. That was all kind of easy to get us where we needed to be.
I liked the setup of the vendetta, reminded me of some Harlequins I'd read back in the day, but really, the story was a whole lot of resisting, much internal dialogue/thinking, then more push back, some sex, and so on. I wanted to see h/H be more, have some softer times together. I liked the idea of them; I just never got to that place where I felt invested in them as a couple.
I liked Rule's Seduction somewhat better than the previous book, but that's not saying much. If you're a die-hard fan of the series, you might want to check it out. Though, if I'd skipped reading this one, I don't know that I'd have missed anything. Not bad, but really not that great.

Another disappointing read for me

The Rule series started out great, but after the 1st book it went downhill fast. Could not stand Nick's book he was a jerk. Didn't even read Garrett's ( never thought I would say that about a Lynda Chance book). This book so 1970's, Lord of the manor, girl not allowed out of his sight. Seemed as if all she did or was allowed to do was sit around the house or they had sex. Very shallow story line. I read this book thinking it might be better than the brothers books and the fact it looks like it may be the last in the series. The last few books have been no where near the quality of the author's earlier books. There was time I stalked her web site waiting for word of her next book. Sad to say this is not the case now. At $3.99 a book I' m not sure how I feel about buying books in the future.
